Where Did Spring Cleaning/Decluttering Come From?

As part of the Jewish custom, spring cleaning coincides with the Passover in March or April, which signifies the liberation of Jews from Egypt.
Greek Orthodox church members clean house for a week leading up to Lent.
In Iran, the holiday Nowruz, also known as the Persian New Year, coincides with the first day of spring. Cleaning is one part of the thirteen days of celebration.
